Why You Shouldn’t Overthink Your Social Media Content
One of the biggest issues I see businesses struggle with when it comes to social media is overthinking posts.
Of course, you want to create quality content, but overthinking posts and spending hours rewriting captions is only going to slow down your progress. Because hiiii, it's a MAJOR time suck. #Realtalk, those few words aren't likely going to make a big difference, and that ONE post isn't going to be the thing that makes or breaks your business either.
I see so many people put SO much weight into one post and the time they spend on them. Then when it doesn't blow up or land you a bunch of DMs of leads people get frustrated with progress. IMO, social media has been and will always be a long-term strategy. Yes, even in the era of people chasing viral posts and stories of overnight success. Which, I also don't recommend chasing that mentality, but that's a whole other post... 🙃
Social media is about making connections, sharing knowledge and stories, and supporting your brand and customer experience. All of which aren't things that can happen in one or two posts. So stop dedicating time to them like they will.
So how do you get past this? My advice is to create it, review it, and post it! I like to set a timer when I'm working on content calendars for my own business as well as clients. That way I know I have a dedicated amount of time to spend on creating the content and then when that time is out I know it's time to proofread and wrap things up. It's a great way to get ish done and move on without getting lost in overthinking revision land!
